The "Couple's" Friend

I remember right after Troy and I got married it was hard to find friends. You know, you had to find couples where the boys got along together, the girls got along together and then the four of you got along together. We met Sam and Carla soon after we were married and they got engaged shortly after. We had a great year of hanging out...nights on the plaza, late nights playing games, art fairs, canoe trips, their Jamaican wedding, etc. The friendship was easy. Even our dogs were BFF. Then they moved to MN. We made trips; they made trips. It was a little tougher, but we kept the friendship. Then we had a kid, they had a kid, we had another, they had another. Even tougher. Our lives are crazy busy. Traveling is chaotic with children. Even amidst the babies, we still traveled. They made a KS trip last week. A 9 month old, 2, 3, and 4 year old in the house for 5 days. It was busy and wonderful and different. Times together aren't as simple, but still special. The 50 conversations we started and didn't finish were still great. There was just more time. We wished they lived closer. But we are grateful we can always pick up like no time has passed.

They have darling little Gage who Kyndal adored. For days after they left she asked where Baby Gage was.

Still as we walk by the guest room door she puts her finger to her lips and says, "Shhh, baby Gage seeping."

Despite the year difference in Jack and Codey, they still buddied up and had a good time together. They fought, they hugged, they wrestled...they were good friends.

Carla is a wonderful woman and special mom who loves her little guys dearly. She and I had a 2 hour date together one night and covered SO much material...it was awesome and necessary and healthy and helpful.

How awesome is that hair. Ooh, if only Codey's hair wouldn't grow straight out like a porcupine!! Jack is a darling little guy with a super fun spirit.
We had fun at Lenexa Lake, playing around the house, in the 'hood, rompin' around in the basement. We had fun.

We braved to leave the 4 kids with sitters to enjoy the KU/Nebraska game. It was nice to be adults hanging out, remembering why we got along so well from the day we met. We are grateful for the friendship and the memories. We all know as we have families, friendships take more effort, but it is well worth it. This is a special family we will always love and adore. We look forward to more memories with our families. Thanks for making the trip! We appreciate it!
